How Does This Scam Work?

Corrupt phone-card companies produce cards that advertise larger number of minutes than they actually contain. These cards are sold through local bodegas or other distributors. When a card is used, the voice prompts often sound correct, however the calls end well before all the minutes have been used up.

Simply put, consumers are paying for a certain number of minutes and are receiving far fewer than they were promised.

We believe that crooked firms knowingly mislead consumers with false advertisements and faulty cards. They also mislead consumers through excessive fine print, confusing terms and conditions, or simple omission of important information about card usage.
